MarKim Farms has Acquired a New Hanoverian Mare!!!

November, 2014

We are very excited here at MarKim Farms to announce that we have purchased a new Hanoverian mare! Her name is Spice WF. She is black bay and stands at 16.2 hands. Spice has been undersaddle for 1.5 years and has also had 4 foals with frozen semen (including one embryo transfer!!), so she is very fertile as a broodmare. Her bloodlines are very interesting with some jumper blood in there. We are confident that she will produce some really nice dressage horses for us here at MarKim Farms when crossed with the right stallion (boy, do we have some great ideas!!!).

Spice is by the ELITE Hanoverian Stallion, Sam Steele (Sherlock Holmes) x ES Esplanade (Eichendorff).  He has produced many top Hunters, Jumpers, and Dressage horses. Sam Steeles' sire, Sherlock Holmes, is the sire of eight licensed-stallions and 40 State-Premium-Mares. Sherlock Holmes' offspring, like Sam Steele, are multi-talented for Hunters, Jumpers, and Dressage. Sam Steele has produced numerous horses with extravagant movement.  Sam Steele's dam, SPS Eskalade, has produced 3 ELITE Hanoverian stallions.

Spice's dam, EM Esplanade is an AMAZING broodmare and has produced an approved AHS Elite Hanoverian stallion, an upcoming Grand Prix mare and several extremely promising offspring moving up the levels. So these are half siblings of Spice through the same dam. Spice herself has produced the champion Hanoverian mare at her inspection out of 8 really nice mares that were presented that day. So we are quite excited. Spice and her foals seem to have a very good, quiet and friendly temperament. We look forward to riding Spice in the future as well as breeding her to top dressage stallions.

May we introduce "Diamond Tiara MKF"

July, 2014

MarKim Farms is proud to introduce Diamond Tiara MKF by Diamond Stud (Diamond Hit/Lavarino) out of Revlon (Routinier/Tarim).  This filly is a brown bay with star/large snip and 4 white socks!!  Talk about flashy!!!  This filly is a power mover with a fantastic temperament. She has very correct conformation.  She will be sure to follow in the footsteps of her successful and rideable siblings.  With such strong bloodlines represented in this filly, she will be destined for the big ring!!

NEWS FLASH!!!:  Diamond Tiara made history on July 12, 2014!!  She broke the record in Oldenburg history as being the youngest foal ever to receive Premium status at her Oldenburg inspection at a mere 17 hours old!!!  We are so proud!!

Please visit her page, Diamond Tiara MKF, for more information. SOLD

May we introduce "Swan Lake MKF"

June, 2014

MarKim Farms is proud to introduce Swan Lake MKF our 2014 black bay filly by Schwarzenegger out of our Diamond Hit/Roemer mare, Dubonnet. "Ballie" is a tall, dark beauty with one hind sock and two perfectly matched and very striking front socks that reminded us of ballerina toe shoes!! Swan Lake MKF was in fact named for one of the greatest classical ballets of all time, "Swan Lake," which tells the story of a princess and which requires a ballerina of exceptional talent due to its unusual demands for flexibility and technical dance skills. Swan Lake MKF is destined to be that kind of ballerina!!

Also, in naming this beautiful filly, we wanted to not only use an "S" to reflect her stunning sire Schwarzenegger but also an "L" to honor her great grand dam, Loretta. Considered by many to be one of the greatest mares in modern sporthorse breeding, Loretta is the dam of the stallions Diamond Hit, Sandro Hit, and Royal Hit.

NEWS FLASH!!!:  Swan Lake was awarded Premium status at her Oldenburg inspection at a mere 3.5 weeks old!!!  The Oldenburg inspectors were very impressed by how super well developed she was at her young age.

Offered for sale to a serious buyer who is looking for a youngster with true FEI potential.  Please visit her page, Swan Lake MKF, for more information. SOLD

Our trip to Vechta, Germany!!!

Mark and Kim at Klosterhof Medingen

November, 2013

Mark and I were fortunate enough to make an exciting trip to Germany in November thanks to Doug of Rideauwood Farms and the German Oldenburg Verband!!!

Day 1:

We spent out first Sunday afternoon at Klosterhof Medingen, at the personal invitation of Burkhard Wahler. We saw such stallions as Duke Of Oldenburg, Danone, Caprimond, Herbstkönig, and of course De Niro, the #1 ranked dressage breeding stallion in the world, as well as discussing with Herr Wahler, his approaches and philosophy to breeding.

Day 2:

The next day we had a very full day visiting Lodbergen, Gestüt Sprehe and Hengststation Böckmann. At Lodbergen, we saw Sean Connery and Dante Weltino worked under saddle, and saw For Romance, Follow Me, Mighty Magic, and Velvet Touch, and had an extensive tour of this very impressive facility. At Gestüt Sprehe, we saw a number of horses in hand including the iconic Diamond Hit, and had a tour and lecture on the "Sprehe" approach to breeding. To end the day, we visited Hengststation Böckmann, and saw the fabulous Fidertanz, Check-In, Quattro, Lord Pezi Junior and Christian.

Day 3:

The following day, we started with a visit to Gerd Sosath's facility which is impressive in itself with its scope and the attention to detail put into the facilities. Of course there were the stallions that were shown, and an unbelievable amount of high quality young stock. Jumping participants on the course were particularly happy to see Lordanos, Landor and Casiro, while the dressage aficionados were pleased to see the young stallion Antango and Kardinal. A quick trip down Autobahn A1 (at about 180 km/hr) and we were at Gut Fuchtel, the home of Count Clemens von Merveldt. This is a beautiful historic farm that just oozes tradition and quality, with a focus on breeding foals and training young horses. We were privileged to listen to their breeding philosophy which has produced the stallions Floriscount, Detroit (now competing in Denmark) and Statesman, and well as numerous Brilliant Ring mares, and many top priced foals and riding horses at the Oldenburg Elite Auctions. And finally we had an impromptu stop at the Ludwig Kathmann facility which stands and promotes within Germany, Tomahawk, Chippendale, Negro, Cennin, the Blue Hors stallions. We were fortunate to hear of the breeding approach of one of the oldest and most respected stallion stations in Germany from the Breeding Director, Martin Determann.

Day 4:

The next day, we visited Schockemoehle Hengststation and were toured around the facility and we were able to see such stallions as Balou du Rouet, Sir Donnerhall, Bordeaux, Surprice etc. After the visit to Schockemoehle, we visited the Paul Schockemoehle tack shop!!

Day 5-7:

The remaining three days were taken up by the amazing Oldenburg Stallion Days. This consisted of the Oldenburg stallion presentation and licensing, award of Premium stallions, the auction of the stallions, and to top it all off, the Althengsteparade!! The auction was very exciting. The price highlights were the De Niro/Rosario/Feiner Stern that went to Andreas Helgstrand of Denmark for 910,000 Euros(!!!), and the highest priced jumper was Diarado/Quidam's Rubin/Continue at 115,000 Euros. The grand finale was the Althengsteparade. Where else can you see in 3 hours of Don Frederic, Tomahawk, For Romance, Dante Weltino, Fidertanz, Franziskus, Fuerstenball, San Amour, etc., all at one venue?

All in all, this was a super informative trip that highlighted the difference in making breeding decisions between watching DVDs and news stories on the Internet, and seeing the stallions in real life, seeing the facilities and approaches to breeding, and listening to experts whose knowledge bases are the product of centuries of sport horse tradition passed down through the generations. What a valuable trip and one that we hope to make again in the future!!! This trip has reinforced our own breeding decisions here at MarKim Farms and we look forward to continuing our successful approach to breeding Oldenburg Sporthorses!!

He has a big blaze and 4 white stockings!!

We wanted to share this wonderful write up from Michelle Roberts:

"Spring has sprung here, and finally some rain. The grass is greening up quickly and foaling season is in full swing - this time remotely for us.

The second Katje foal hit the ground last night around 11:00 p.m. in Michigan.  Seems to be a year for pre-midnight babies, this time a healthy chestnut sabino colt out of Revlon, a stunning Oldenburg mare.  Baby boy, named 'In Italics,' is a true gift, and looks like a wonderful cross between his kind, large-boned daddy and gorgeous, refined and sweet dam. Owner Kim Ennett of MarKim Farms has made this the most incredible experience.  She is not only a super breeder but a kind and wonderful person, and we have formed a friendship.  Thank you Kim for this precious gift.

Italics is pictured not long after birth.   I'm already in love.  We can't wait to watch him grow." Michelle Roberts, Firemist Farm, 4/20/13

November, 2012

Exciting FOUNDATION News!!! As written by Emily Yeomans of the GOV:

"Each year the German Oldenburg Verband recognizes two, young four-year-old stallions to bestow the Hauptprämiensieger ('Main Premium') title upon one OL-Dressage and one OS-Jumping stallion. The promising young stallion Foundation (Fidertanz x De Vito x Andiamo) was selected as the 2012 winner of the OL title. The Hauptprämiensieger stallions are chosen based upon the outstanding results of their first foal crops combined with performance success. Foundation was approved in 2010 at Vechta and has since gone on to complete his Stallion Performance Test at Schliekau with a 9.06 in dressage and have good placings in sport. Combine this with the success of his first crop; six foals were selected for Auction in Vechta, with one colt selling for 32,000 Euros and you have your 2012 Oldenburger Hauptprämiensieger! Past OL winners include stallions who have since gone onto very big things including; Sir Donnerhall, Rubin Royal, Fürstenball, Fürst Romancier, Sorento, San Amour etc. The prestigious Hauptprämiensieger title is a further selection and recognition of quality in young stallions."

Congratulations to Revlon's daughter, Sadira!!!

November, 2012

Revlon's daughter, Sadira by Starlight, had an amazing show season with her owner, Amy Chipman!!! This was her first year out as a 3 year old and she dominated at Training level!! Here is a picture of some of her loot! Revlon (Routinier/Tarim) is our Oldenburg mare and she is a proud mama!! This is what Amy says: "Today was the last show of the season - Woohoo, Sadira! High score at 4 out of 5 shows and a Championship to wrap up the year :) Now a well deserved little winter vacay and then 1st level and 4 year old test next year!"  We are excited that Amy's got big plans for coming out at 1st level next year and competing in the 4 year old Markel/USEF Young Horse Dressage Classes. We can hardly wait!! Stay tuned!

Congratulations to Qredit Hilltop!

November, 2012

We at MarKim Farms send out our congratulations to Qredit Hilltop (Quaterback/Dream of Glory) for earning top honors this past weekend as the overall and dressage Champion of his Stallion Performance Test!!  We, along with owners Dan and Kerrie Gellings, continue to thrill in watching the development of our own 2011 Q and D blend stallion prospect Quater Hit (Quaterback/Diamond Hit), pictured here on November 11, 2012 at 19 1/2 months and 16.1 1/2 hands.

Pedigree Pride!!!

October, 2012

We at MarKim Farms were very excited to see the results of this weekend's Hanoverian Stallion Licensing and Sales in Germany.  Of the four highest priced Premium Licensed stallions, two very closely mirror the type of bloodline blends we subscribe to in our breeding program. The success of these stallions greatly validates our own thorough research and decision-making in the producing of today's modern type Champion Sporthorses!

First, the Diamond Hit/Florestan/Sunset Boulevard xx proved to be enormously popular and at 220,000 euro was the third highest seller of the 102 stallions sold.  The pedigree of this exceptional young stallion is very close to that of our 2012 colt Freedom Hit (Freestyle[Florestan]/Diamond Hit/Roemer) and likewise similar to that of our highly anticipated 2013 foal from our Diamond Hit mare and by the very exciting young stallion Foundation, also descending from Florestan.

Second, the Quando Quando/Donnerhall/Lauries Crusador xx generated a great deal of excitement and interest at the licensing and was the fourth highest selling stallion at 200,000 euro.  This blend of the Q and D lines with inclusion of top quality Thoroughbred blood is the essence of what we have in Quater Hit, our 2011 colt now being raised by his owner as a stallion prospect.  Quater Hit's Thoroughbred blood is seen a few generations back through the dam of our Diamond Hit mare and traces back to Bold Ruler, the sire of Secretariat.

Our Mare Dubonnet’s In Utero Foal has a 3-Way Bloodline match to the $1 Million Premium Champion Licensed Stallion Sold at the Oldenburg Licensing/Auction in Vechta, Germany

November, 2011

We are excited to say that Dubonnet’s upcoming 2012 foal, Freedom Hit, is very closely related to the Premium and Champion Licensed Stallion (#59), For Romance, who recently sold at the 2011 Oldenburg Stallion Days Licensing/Auction in Vechta, Germany on November 19.  He sold for an amazing $750,000 EURO (over $1 Million U.S. Dollars)!!

This Stallion has a close 3-way bloodline match with our Dubonnet’s upcoming foal, both on the top and bottom of the pedigree: through the F line (Florestan I), the D line (Don Shufro) and also through a very prominent mare line proven for producing stallions, Loretta.  She is an Elite mare held in the highest regard who has sired the well known “Hit” line of successful stallions such as Sandro Hit, Diamond Hit and Royal Hit.

Our Mare Dubonnet's Grandsire, Don Schufro, Proves Once Again to be an Extraordinary Sire!!

October, 2011

MarKim Farms congratulates Heather Blitz and her 8-year-old Don Schufro son, Paragon, for their outstanding achievement of Team Gold and Individual Silver at the 2011 Pan American Games in Mexico!!  We are especially excited as our mare, Dubonnet, is by the Don Schufro son, Diamond Hit, half-brother to the great Paragon.  Please visit our Sales page for information about Dubonnet, her exciting upcoming 2012 foal, and recently updated pictures of Quater Hit, her fantastic 2011 colt by Quaterback.  Quater Hit's new owner states, "It was specifically because of Paragon that I went looking for something from Don Schufro.  And I found exactly what I wanted at MarKim Farms five days after he was born: my Don Schufro great grandson Quater Hit, by Quaterback.  'Q-Tip' has been a complete delight, with his calm, laid-back, relaxed and friendly personality.  He has been exposed to goats, a pig named Petunia, and lots of people and big barn parties and absolutely nothing fazes him!  He also looks to be carrying on the Don Schufro height gene and appears likely to mature at over 17 hands.  I could not be happier!"

Quater Hit rated Premium at his Oldenburg Inspection!!

September, 2011

Quater Hit successfully achieved Premium status at his ISR/Oldenburg NA inspection on September 1, 2011.  The judges expressed an interest in monitoring his development and would like to see him again at age two as a possible stallion prospect.

Quater Hit will be departing to his new home in Holly, MI this month.  His owners, Dan and Kerrie Gellings, are thrilled with him and they look forward to taking him home and managing his future growth and development.  We look forward to updates as he matures!

Watch for them in the show ring and breeding shed!  They will be making headlines!
